IT Sales Professional
The role of an IT sales professional is essentially categorised in three main areas which are pre-sales, sales and post-sales.
The first of the three categorises, pre-sales, involves providing detailed information and technical information to potential customers and advising them why the product can assist their business. As this is a sales role, much of the work that you undertake may well occur over the telephone (potentially including cold calling), so you will need an excellent telephone manor and strategy. Sales roles also have targets that you need to meet and often to beat to ensure that you earn your potential salary and progress in your career.
The sales portion of the job would involve negotiating a commercial agreement, or a simple, straight forward sale, depending on what was being sold. The sales pitch is likely to involve liaising with product managers and then giving presentations and demonstrations. You will need a certain level of confidence to perform this well.
The after sales portion of the role would involve answering queries or providing technical assistance, with the after sales support, there are possibilities of making further, or future sales so a degree of "account management" is also required.
Sales jobs and careers are certainly not for everybody, but if you are passionate about the IT industry and have what it takes to be a success, you can reap the rewards.
